Bootleg DVD Nominated for Jazz Award
While the Count Basie band’s Live In Berlin & Stockholm 1968 has been nominated for the DVD of the Year award from the Jazz Journalists Association (JJA), the nomination’s legitimacy has been questioned as the video is a bootleg and was released without the approval of Basie’s estate.
An e-mail sent to the association in the form of an open letter from Reelin’ In The Years Productions (which produces the Jazz Icons series of DVDs) brought the issue to wider attention.
